Subscription cancellation letter template

First check where you signed up. If you pay through Apple or Google Play, a letter to the company won't stop the charges: cancel in your phone's subscription settings instead, and the tool below shows where. For anything else, fill in the company, your account number and when you want it to end. The letter asks them to stop further charges and to confirm the cancellation and any final charge in writing. Copy it into an email, open it as an email draft, or print it to post, then keep a copy of what you sent, as the FTC suggests.

Fill in what you know. The letter updates as you type; copy it into an email, open it as an email draft, or print it to post.

This is a template, not legal advice: notice periods and how you must cancel depend on your agreement. Nothing you enter is saved or sent anywhere.

    Questions

How do I write a letter to cancel a subscription?

Say who you are, which subscription and account you're cancelling, and when it should end. Ask them to stop further charges and to confirm the cancellation in writing. Keep it short, date it and keep a copy.

Should I cancel by email or by letter?

Use the method the company's terms or cancel page ask for. Email gives you a dated copy straight away; a posted letter is worth it when the terms say cancellation must be in writing by post.

What if they keep charging me after I cancel?

Contact the company with your copy of the cancellation and their confirmation. If the charges continue, the FTC suggests disputing them with your credit or debit card company; changing your card number alone is often not enough.

Can I cancel an Apple or Google Play subscription with a letter?

No. Those are billed by Apple or Google, so cancel in your device's subscription settings: on iPhone, Settings > your name > Subscriptions; on Android, the Play Store app > Payments & subscriptions > Subscriptions.

    Is my information saved?

No. The letter is made in your browser and nothing you type is saved or sent anywhere.
